Warehousing and Distribution in Kent

Scalderhurst holds palletised stock at two warehouse sites in Kent and delivers it across the UK mainland and Ireland. Storage is not limited to paper and board: the sites take any palletised goods, including oversized and awkward items that will not fit standard racking. Stock is logged on arrival, counted, reported and released against call-off rather than in a single drop. Scalderhurst is a paper and board merchant that operates its own warehousing, so the same site can store, convert and dispatch.

What the Kent Sites Offer

Four things separate these sites from a self-storage unit or a pure haulage contract. The buildings hold volume, they are secured around the clock, they accept goods well beyond paper and board, and the stock is actively managed rather than parked. Each is summarised here and set out in full further down the page.

Over 100,000 sq ft

Capacity runs across multiple bays, with room for palletised paper and board alongside oversized, awkward or bulky goods. Standard racked facilities turn most of that away, so it is usually the constraint that decides where difficult stock can go.

24-Hour Security

Controlled access, monitored site and 24-hour security throughout the facility. Every item is logged and tracked from intake to dispatch.

Not Limited to Paper & Board

We store and distribute any palletised goods — food packaging, magazines, branded product, industrial stock, seasonal lines. If it fits on a pallet and needs a UK home, we can help.

Stock Reporting and Replenishment

Full stock management with regular reporting, minimum and maximum holding levels, and coordinated replenishment. We manage the stock so you can focus on production.

Inside the Kent Warehouse

Scalderhurst's forklift and pallet-truck fleet ready to handle paper reels in the Kent warehouse

Forklifts and pallet trucks move stock through intake, storage and dispatch across the Kent sites, handling parent reels of paper and board alongside oversized palletised goods. Reel handling is the part most general warehouses are not equipped for: a parent reel is heavy, round and damaged easily by the wrong clamp. Kept off the concrete and handled on the right equipment, paper holds its moisture content and runs properly when it reaches a press.

Support for Mills Entering the UK Market

Overseas paper and board mills looking to enter or grow in the UK market can use our Kent facility as a ready-made distribution hub. We take mill stock into storage, convert it to UK customer specifications where needed, and handle the pick-pack-dispatch operation to end customers across the UK and Ireland.

Store Your Stock

Mill parent reels, sheet pallets and finished stock sit in the Kent warehouse rather than at the mill. UK customers draw against that holding without carrying the lead time and cost of importing from overseas on every order.

Convert Your Stock

Parent reels sheeted, slit, rewound or rewrapped to UK customer formats on site. Mills extend their product reach into the UK without needing a UK conversion operation of their own.

UK Distribution Hub

Goods-in, storage, pick-pack, dispatch and customer service are all run here for a mill's UK business. That gives an overseas mill a responsive local presence without the overhead of establishing a UK site and staffing it.

Warehouse Capabilities

The four capabilities below are what a buyer is usually checking before moving stock to a third party: how the building is built, how stock is counted, how it leaves, and how orders are picked. Each is described in full rather than summarised, because the detail is what determines whether a site suits a given operation.

Storage Facilities

Our purpose-built warehousing in Kent provides dedicated racking, block-stacking and open high-roof bays for a wide range of goods. Concrete floors, covered loading bays and controlled ventilation protect stored products from moisture and damage. Stock is organised by customer and delivery schedule, enabling rapid picking and efficient use of the full up-to-9,500 tonne capacity. The site suits everything from palletised paper and board to imported goods, industrial components and bulky or irregular items.

How Stock Is Tracked and Reported

Every item entering our warehouse is logged, tracked and monitored through our stock management system. We provide customers with regular stock reports, manage minimum and maximum holding levels, and coordinate replenishment orders with global mills on your behalf. This hands-off approach means you can focus on production while we ensure the right grades are always available in the right quantities. Over 50 years of experience in the paper trade means we understand seasonal demand cycles and can plan stockholding accordingly.

Distribution Network

From our Kent base we operate a distribution network covering the entire UK mainland and Ireland. Deliveries are planned and routed for efficiency, with the flexibility to handle both full articulated loads and smaller part-load consignments. Our logistics team works closely with haulage partners to maintain a dependable schedule, and every vehicle is tracked so you know exactly when your delivery will arrive. For customers with multiple sites, we coordinate split deliveries to ensure each location receives exactly what it needs.

Order Fulfilment

When you place an order, our warehouse team picks, checks and dispatches your goods with precision. Whether the requirement is for converted sheets cut to specification, full reels direct from stock or a mixed consignment combining several grades, we handle the preparation and loading to get it right first time. Orders placed before our daily cut-off are typically dispatched same day or next day, depending on destination and load requirements.

Delivery Coverage

Delivery runs from the Kent sites to the UK mainland and Ireland, on full loads and part loads. Scheduled runs suit customers taking stock to a production plan; ad hoc runs cover the orders nobody planned for. Consignments are tracked, and customers with more than one site can take split deliveries against a single order rather than placing several.

UK Mainland

We deliver to all regions of mainland England, Scotland and Wales. Standard lead times are typically one to three working days depending on distance and load size, with next-day service available for many south-east and midlands destinations. Regular delivery runs to key industrial areas mean we can offer competitive rates and consistent schedules for customers with ongoing supply requirements.

Ireland and Northern Ireland

Deliveries run to both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland on long-established routes. Cross-channel logistics are handled by Scalderhurst rather than passed back to the customer, and loads are consolidated weekly so a part-pallet order does not carry the cost of a dedicated run. For Irish customers that consolidation is usually the difference between viable and not on smaller quantities.

Scheduled & Ad-Hoc Deliveries

For customers with predictable consumption, we arrange regular scheduled deliveries aligned to your production calendar. This call-off approach reduces your on-site storage burden and ensures stock arrives precisely when needed. For urgent or one-off requirements, our ad-hoc delivery service can respond quickly with part-load or express consignments to keep your lines running.

Tracked Consignments

Every delivery leaving our warehouse is tracked from dispatch to arrival. Our logistics team provides proof of delivery and can give you real-time updates on consignment status. For time-critical deliveries, we offer direct communication with the driver to coordinate arrival windows and ensure smooth goods-in at your premises.

A UK Distribution Hub

While paper and board is our heritage, our warehousing and logistics operation is open to any business that needs flexible UK storage and distribution. Over the years we've stored everything from phone boxes to train seats — and we actively welcome enquiries from any sector.

Entry Point for Imported Goods

Our Kent location makes us an ideal landing point for goods arriving into the UK. We handle intake, storage and onward distribution for importers and distributors who need dependable south-east capacity without running their own facility.

Store and Redistribute

We don't just hold stock — we pick, pack and deliver it where it needs to go. Whether you need us to hold inventory and fulfil orders on your behalf, or consolidate loads for multi-site delivery, we manage the logistics end to end.

High-Roof & Flexible Space

Our warehousing includes high-roof bays suited to oversized, awkward or bulky goods that don't fit a standard racked system. If you've got something unusual to store, talk to us.

Short-Term or Long-Term

One-off projects and long-term storage agreements run on the same controls, with the same inventory counting, security and dispatch checks across every account. A short overflow contract is not treated as a lesser job than a standing one.

When Scalderhurst Is Not the Right Warehouse

Storage in Kent suits businesses shipping into London, the South East and the Channel ports, and businesses importing through those ports. A single county is the wrong base for a national next-day network: if orders go out to Scotland and the North West every day, the mileage from Kent will cost more than the storage saves. Operators with regional depots will beat Scalderhurst on that pattern.

Goods need to be palletised or capable of being palletised. Loose bulk, liquids in tank, and anything requiring temperature control or a licensed hazardous store are outside what the Kent sites are set up for. Oversized and awkward items are welcome, which is the opposite constraint from most racked facilities, but they still need to sit on a pallet or a base.

Scalderhurst is a paper and board merchant that runs its own warehousing, not a contract packer or an ecommerce fulfilment house. Stock is stored, converted, picked to order and delivered. Single-item consumer despatch, returns handling and subscription packing are not services offered here, and a specialist third-party logistics provider is the better fit for those.

Two things a buyer will reasonably ask that are not published: the minimum contract term and the goods-in hours. Both are set per enquiry rather than held as a standard, so they are quoted with the rate rather than listed here.
