About Scalderhurst

Scalderhurst is a family-run paper and board merchant, now in its third generation. For over 50 years we've been supplying converters, printers, packaging companies and brand owners across the UK, Ireland and overseas — and the values we started with haven't changed.

Our Story

Scalderhurst was founded in 1973 by a family who knew the paper trade inside out. The idea was simple: buy well, hold good stock and look after your customers. It worked then and it works now.

The business is still family-run, now in its third generation. That continuity matters. It means the people you deal with understand the products, the mills and the market — not because they read about it, but because they grew up in it. Decisions are made quickly, by people who care about getting it right, and relationships with customers and suppliers alike are measured in decades, not contracts.

Three generations of the Scalderhurst family together
Three generations — the family who continue to run Scalderhurst today.

Over the years we've invested in dedicated warehousing, in-house conversion and direct relationships with mills worldwide. Today we hold up to 9,500 tonnes of stock at our Kent site and offer sheeting, slitting, rewinding, guillotining and rewrapping on site. That means we can respond fast — usually in days, not the weeks you'd wait ordering direct from a mill.

We supply businesses of all sizes, from independent converters and printers to large packaging manufacturers and brand owners. What they have in common is that they want a supplier they can rely on — someone who answers the phone, knows their account and delivers what was promised, when it was promised. That's what we do.

Our Values

Reliability

Our customers depend on consistent, on-time supply to keep their production lines running. We maintain substantial UK stockholding and strong mill relationships so that we can fulfil orders promptly, even when market conditions are challenging. When we commit to a delivery date, we deliver.

Quality

Every product that leaves our warehouse is fully traceable and meets the specifications agreed with our customers. We work exclusively with reputable mills and carry out rigorous quality checks throughout our supply chain, from goods-in inspection to final dispatch. Our customers know they can trust what we supply.

Partnership

Being family-run means we think long term. Every customer has a dedicated contact who knows their account, their products and their schedule. Many of our customer relationships go back decades — and some of our supplier relationships go back just as far. That's not a sales line, it's how we work.

Sustainability

Real sustainability starts with using less. We convert to size to eliminate offcuts, rework and reissue redundant stock wherever possible, and make the most of every sheet and reel we buy. We also hold FSC and PEFC chain-of-custody certification, so the paper and board we supply comes from responsibly managed forests.

Certifications & Standards

Scalderhurst is committed to responsible sourcing, environmental stewardship and maintaining the highest standards of quality across our operations.

FSC Certified

Our Forest Stewardship Council chain-of-custody certification guarantees that FSC-labelled products we supply can be traced back to responsibly managed forests. This gives our customers full confidence in the provenance and sustainability credentials of their materials.

PEFC Certified

We also hold Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification chain-of-custody status. PEFC certification provides an additional internationally recognised assurance that the wood fibre in our products originates from sustainably managed sources.

Quality Management

Rigorous quality controls are embedded at every stage of our operation. From incoming goods inspection and storage conditions through to conversion tolerances and dispatch checks, we maintain documented procedures that ensure consistency and traceability across all products.

Environmental Responsibility

Beyond certification, we actively reduce waste across our operation. We convert to size to minimise offcuts, rework stock where it can be redirected, plan delivery routes for efficiency, and manage waste streams responsibly with a focus on recovery and reuse.
